Fun Volunteer Opportunities
The FFA moto is "Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earing to Live, Living to Serve" and the Lakeview FFA lives out this motto in many ways of the activities we do. Our community service activities include...
Corn Drive: Every fall FFA members collect corn from area farms and donante the proceeds to Camp Courage. Camp Courage is a camp in Minnesota for disabled children and adults.
Farm Safety Day and Petting Zoo: Every spring the FFA hosts a safety day to make Lakeview elementary students aware of the dangers involved with rural living and teach them how to stay safe. FFA members also provide the elementary with a pettiong zoo to educate them about farm animals.
Road Ditch Clean-up: The Lakeview FFA participates in the MN DOT "Adopted a Highway" program. Our sections is along Hwy 23 and we plan to clean it every fall and spring.
Farmfest: FFA members help the Lyon County Farm Bureau grill and service pork chops at thier annual pork chop booth at Farmfest.
Lyon County Fair Childrens Barnyard: FFA members provide fair goers with a petting zoo to educate them about farm animals.
For students who ask their teachers "when will i ever use this in the real world?" Career Development Events (CDEs) are the answer. Since 1928, FFA has worked to create CDEs that demonstrate the meaningful connections between classroom instruction and real-life scenarios. CDEs build on what is learned in agricultural classes. The events are designed to help prepare students for careers in agriculture. Classroom instruction comes alive as students demonstrate their skills in a competitive setting. CDEs test thet abilities of individuals and teams in a number of major areas of agriculture instruction.

FFA members are given numerous opportunities to develop leadership skills. Members can start out developing their leadership skills by becoming a committee member or even chairing one of Lakeview's FFA events. Every spring, members in 9th-11th grade are given the opportunity to apply to become a Lakeview FFA officer for the upcoming school year. Furthemore, members are able to attend various leadership conferences and camps throughout the state and even the nation!
The Lakeview FFA puts on several fundraisers each year to earn funds to send members to, the State FFA Convention, the National FFA Convention, and Leadership Camps. Our annual fundraisers include Donkey Races, Pork Chop Feeds and Fruit Sales.
The Lakeview FFA isn't all about community service activities, career development events, leadership experiences and fundraising. We also like to have fun! Yearly, the FFA travels to the Twin Cities to watch a Twins or Vikings game and plans to have multiple chapter events
